Abstract
The present article as a research in persian syntax explores the problem of ambiguity in persian and provides an analysis for different type of ambiguous sentences in this language within the government and binding theory as developed in Chomsky 1981 and later works. For this purpose after presenting an overview of GB theory and its subtheories together with the main conceps and principles, different examples of the most common ambiguous structures in persian are analysed and explained on the basis of three subtheories of theoretical frame work adopted in this study, namly binding theory, bounding theory and x' theory. In so doing , the efficiency of the principles of Chomsky's universal grammer in accounting for the intuitively ambiguous persian sentences , is borne out.
