Abstract
In present article Persian liquid words were studied in terms of semiotics. In this research at first, liquid words in Persian have been classified and It has been tried to study the semiotic relations in this lexical field with emphasis on sign types (iconic, indexical and symbolic). Then, denotational and connotational meaning of liquid words have been examined. The results indicate that it is possible to divide them into two groups called semiotic and nonsemiotic liquid. It is important to say that the first group is smaller than the second one. It is also possible to classify the liquid words as iconic, indexical and symbolic signs. But every liquid can not be classified only in one certain type and at times a combination of sign types are expected. The results also show that there is a direct relationship between frequency of liquid words and the addition of their connotational meaning. It can be added that there is a particular relationship between the lexical structure of liquid words in one hand and their connotational meaning on the other hand.
