Word Order Typology in the Middle Persian Language

Abstract
In language typology of the word order, arrangement of structures at the level of clause, group and sentence is examined. In the present study, according to the universal components of typology introduced by Greenberg (1963) and Dreyer (1992), the word order in the Middle Persian is examined based on the 24 components of Dabir moghaddam (2006). The Middle Persian (Pahlavi) is one of the Middle Western Iranian languages of the southern branch. Of the 24 specified components (Dabir Moghadam 2006), 17 components have been specified as common components of Iranian languages and 7 components as variable items in these languages. In this research, after defining, describing and using the findings of pioneers in the language typology, the examples and linguistic evidences of 24 components at the level of clause, group and sentence in the Middle persian are presented. The Examples of this paper were extracted Pahlavi books of religious texts; Inspiration and prophecy, injunctions, debates, epic texts, history, geography, religious and legal laws and small Pahlavi treatises. Based on the findings of the research, it was found that in the Middle Persian, the tendency of the correlation pair ov is more than vo. The main word order in sov of the Middle Persian is variable and free.
