چکیده

درمقاله حاضر سعی بر آن است تا نام­آواها در دو زبان فارسی و انگلیسی به روش توصیفی- تحلیلی بررسی شود. ابتدا 60 نام آوا در این دو زبان به همراه معنا و کاربردشان معرفی و توصیف، سپس بر طبق سه نظریه «ding-dong» و «pooh-pooh» و «bow-bow» طبق­ه بندی می­شود. در پی آن نام ­آواهای دو زبان مقایسه و وجوه اشتراک و افتراق آنها مشخص و تبیین می­شود. یافته‌ها حاکی از آن است که نظام واجی متفاوت (محدودیت واجی)، الگوی هجایی متفاوت، تعابیر متفاوت از نام آوا و تکرار/ دوگان‌سازی متفاوت عواملی­ اند که تفاوت‌ها را تبیین می‌کند و وجود واج/های مشترک عاملی است که شباهت‌ها را آشکار می‌سازد. نتایج نشان می‌دهد که با وجود منبع صوت یکسان (صداهای طبیعت، حیوانات و اصوات عاطفی) و علیرغم باور به رابطه طبیعی بین لفظ و معنا تفاوت‌های بارزی را می‌توان در مطالعه بنیازبانی نام آواهای فارسی و انگلیسی نشان داد.

Applying descriptive-analysis method, this study aims to examine English and Persian onomatopoeia, sixty of which are described in terms of meaning and usage, and then classified into certain groups using the three following theories, ding-dong, pooh-pooh, bow-bow. Furthermore, analogy has been drawn to identify their contrast and comparison. Findings of this research indicate that different phonology (phoneme limitation), different syllable pattern and different interpretation of onomatopoeia as well as different reduplication are determining factors which make contrasts while similar/common phonemes act as comparison between the two languages. The results illustrate that despite of the same sound source (nature, animals and emotional sounds) and the common arguments supporting a natural relation between sound and meaning, remarkable differences can be found in cross-linguistic studies of English and Persian onomatopoeia.
